This is a really opening moment for me because I have never shared publicly that I am adopted. This is actually something that we kept between family and super close friends. I was adopted as an adult at age 19 in October of 2013. The woman who adopted me was legally my step-mother, but for the previous 9 years had felt like the mom I never had. For this post I do not feel like sharing my story of my birth mom or any of the events leading up to my adoption. Rather, I would like to share how my adoption has affected me and my family.
Being adopted took a really long time, so long that I was an adult by the time it happened. I had a friend who questioned why I would even go through with it since I wasn't even legally a child anymore. I knew that this was what I wanted to do because this is the woman who had raised me through my teenage years, helped me through the hardest points in my life, and who had made me feel like I was worth something. That is what adoption does for people. IT helps them to feel loved when they are either not being loved or those who do love them can't take care of them. I hope to advocate for the emotional stability that adoption brought me. I had never felt wanted for me, but only as other's wanted me to be. My adopted mom treated me and loved me for who I was and am. For that I am so grateful. Adoption changes lives,
